Evil Empire and Motion Twin are ready to usher in a new age of Dead Cells, and what better way to do it than by bringing the hit 10 million-selling title to PlayStation 5. Dead Cells’ digital PlayStation 5 version launches on June 29 for 24,99$ and will be available for free for PS Plus Extra subscribers and as a free upgrade for PlayStation 4 owners of the game.

Exclusive to Dead Cells’ PlayStation 5 version are feedback features that allows adventurers to venture even deeper into their ongoing runs. Feel every enemy you take down with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers – for example: the DualSense controller pushes back if you try to use an item that’s on cooldown, providing a smart assist so you can switch up strategies to combat oncoming enemies. Additional lights and sound effects from the DualSense controller contribute to the atmosphere of Dead Cells and immerse you in entirely new ways.

Dead Cells’ digital PlayStation 5 version arrives ahead of the game’s physical retail launch on the platform, slated for August 11. Evil Empire and Motion Twin have partnered with Merge Games for a series of Signature edition physical launch versions of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, containing goodies such as a reversible retro cover, outer sleeve, gorgeous enamel pins, an art booklet and more. Both Standard and Signature edition versions of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania will include all of the game’s DLC.

The animation house Bobbypills and animated streaming service ADN have teamed up with Evil Empire and Motion Twin to release an animated series for Dead Cells coming in 2024.

The new show brings fans to a cursed island that has been racked by a strange plague. After the island’s foolish king develops a remedy that ends up turning the population into monstrous creatures, prophecies depicting a flame-headed hero begin to appear. As it so happens this beheaded hero is real, but saving a kingdom isn’t on his schedule and he just wants to be left alone.

This upcoming animated series will be produced by the twisted, talented team at Bobbypills, a Paris-based animation studio known for its expertise in creative, strange originals including Vermin, Peepoodo and the recently announced Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon animated spinoff, Captain Laserhawk. The studio will bring its well-known style, humor and knack for action animation to Dead Cells, The Animated Serie to create the dream series for any Dead Cells fan who has wanted to see more of the beheaded in gorgeous 2D.

The consecutive launch of the 1.0 version on PC & consoles in 2018, a whopping 34 free updates and later launches on mobile have all helped to drive long-tail success in all major global territories, pushing the game into rarely charted sales territory for an independent title.
