Dead Cells

Dead Cells the indie smash-hit “roguevania” developed by Motion Twin needs little introduction… But if we did have to say a few words we’d point out the mash-up nature of the game, a reflection of the unique structure of the studio that brought it to life. Motion Twin’s organisation as a workers co-op helped birth a game that’s equal parts of each member of the team that worked on it, just like the company.

Since 2019, after the release of Motion Twin’s free DLC, and thank you note to the community; “Rise of the Giant”,  Evil Empire has taken over the development and maintenance of the game, including all its paid DLCs. Working in close collaboration with Motion Twin, the “Game-as-a-Service” strategy has allowed Motion Twin to focus on their new and unannounced game, all the while helping Evil Empire build a completely new game studio from the ground up.

Key features

Interconnected levels and progressive unlocking of access to the island provides you with a real incentive to explore your surroundings. Add in a degree of evolution for your character and permanent weapon upgrades and you can see where Dead Cells borrows from the long line of MetroidVanias that precede it.

At the end of the day though, it’s YOUR skills as a player that matter most! Roguelites are about constantly getting better, until what was an insurmountable obstacle becomes a walk in the park. Unforgiving combat wed to the absence of any kind of safety net makes for an adrenaline pumping ride each and every run and unrivaled replayability.
